UNESCO evaluation criterion which determines whether a good or item will be declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A work possesses an Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) if it fulfills one of the following criteria: i) representing a master work of the human creative spirit; ii) testifies to a considerable exchange of human values in the fields of architecture, or technology, the monumental arts, urban planning or landscape creation; iii) is a unique testament to a cultural tradition or civilisation, living or disappeared; iv) is an eminently representative example of a type of construction or an architectural or technological ensemble or of a landscape that illustrates one or various significant periods of human history, especially when this has become vulnerable because of the impact provoked by irreversible changes; v) is an outstanding example of forms of human settlement of culture or various cultures or of the use of the land or sea or of the interaction of man and his surroundings; vi) is directly or materially associated with events or living traditions, beliefs or literary and artistic works that have an exceptional universal importance (The Committee considers that this criterion should preferably be used in conjunction with others); vii) represent natural phenomena or areas of exceptional natural beauty and aesthetic importance; viii) are eminently representative examples of the grand phases of the history of the earth including testimony of the life of geological processes in action in the evolution of terrestrial forms and significanr geomorphological or physiographic elements; ix) are eminently representative examples of ecological processes in the evolution and development of terrestrial, aquatic, coastal and marine ecosystems and the communities of terrestrial plants and animals; x) contains the most representative natural habitats for in situ conservation of biological diversity, including those in which endangered species survive, which have an Outstanding Universal Value from the point of view of the science of conservation. To be considered, the item in question must meet the conditions of integrity and/or authenticity and must have a system of adequate protection and management that guarantee its safeguarding.

Criterio de evaluación de la UNESCO que determina si un bien puede ser declarado Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Una obra posee un Valor Universal Excepcional si cumple con uno o más de los siguientes criterios: "i) Representar una obra maestra del genio creador humano; ii) Atestiguar un intercambio de valores humanos considerable durante un periodo concreto o en un área cultural del mundo determinada en los ámbitos de la arquitectura o la tecnología, la planificación urbana o la creación de paisajes; iii) Aportar un testimonio único sobre una tradición cultural o una civilización viva o desaparecida; iv) Ser un ejemplo eminentemente representativo de un tipo de construcción o de conjunto arquitectónico o tecnológico sobre todo cuando éste se ha vuelto vulnerable debido al impacto provocado por cambios irreversibles; v) Ser un ejemplo destacado de formas tradicionales de asentamiento humano o de utilización de la tierra o del mar, o de interacción del hombre con el medio, sobre todo cuando éste se ha vuelto vulnerable debido al impacto provocado por cambios irreversibles; vi) Estar directa o materialmente asociado con acontecimientos o tradiciones vivas, creencias u obras artísticas y literarias que tengan una importancia universal excepcional. (El Comité considera que este criterio debería utilizarse preferentemente de modo conjunto con los otros criterios); vii) Representar fenómenos naturales o áreas de belleza natural e importancia estética excepcionales; viii) Ser ejemplos eminentemente representativos de las grandes fases de la historia de la tierra de procesos geológicos en curso en la evolución de las formas terrestres o de elementos geomórficos o fisiográficos significativos; ix) Ser ejemplos eminentemente representativos de procesos ecológicos y biológicos en curso en la evolución y el desarrollo de los ecosistemas terrestres, acuáticos, costeros y marinos y las comunidades de vegetales y animales terrestres, costeros y marinos; x) Contener los hábitats naturales más representativos y más importantes para la conservación in situ de la diversidad biológica, comprendidos aquellos en los que sobreviven especies amenazadas que tienen un Valor Universal Excepcional desde el punto de vista de la ciencia o de la conservación. Para ser considerado de Valor Universal Excepcional el bien también debe reunir las condiciones de integridad y/o autenticidad y debe contar con un sistema de protección y gestión adecuadas que garanticen su salvaguardia."
