eje vertical
Thin shaft of wood that forms part of the spindlef for spinning and that for plaiting, it is inserted in the disc so as to achieve the counterweight required during spinning. Its size varies according to the thickness of yarn required.

A small, thin shaft of wood that makes up part of the spindle.

Long, thin shaft of wood that forms part of the spindle.

Subclass of figurative motif of a single motif identified as a natural space organised and modified by man. It includes the square field, the crate-hut with lines and hooks, hexagon-hut with segments, hill and serrated outline. The motifs of the economic and geographical context are usually elaborated in techniques of odd count.

espada
Part of the equipment associatd with the loom, the spatulas made out of wood or bone are used in making warp and weft faced textiles, although their forms are somewhat different. Used particularly to press the passes of the weft.
espada plana de forma ovoide
Spatula used in the making of warp face, especially for double weave; it has a form curved at the edges, giving an ovoid form but flat overall pointed at either end.

Weaving instrument generally made out of wood, flat and with a point at one end, used to compact the cloth as it is being woven. The spatula is attached by the end opposite the point which can be decorated, being introduced edgewise between the two groups of warp threads. In this position, the weaver presses on the pass of the previous weft and in general on the textile structure already made.
espada puntiaguda
Spatula used in making warp face, especially for double weave, it usually is pointed at both ends. On the other hand, for application to tapiz the points are less sharp.

Men's bag made like a sack which hangs on the back by means of two woven extensions and is used to carry some load or game.
esquilado
Process by which animal fibre is amassed as fleece for textile production, through the orderly shearing of the live animal or hide.
estaca
Wooden or metal pole sharpened at one end, approximately 40 cm long and 4 cm in diameter, four of which are driven into the ground to make up a rectangle to support the upper and lower crossbeams of a horizontal loom, which are attached to the stakes with thin ropes made out of camelid wool.
estandarte
Square or rectangular pieces of cloth of approximately 20x20 cm, with two handles which were attached to the horizontal pole of a cross-like structure, the vertical pole having a markedly greater length, possibly used to identify the dead amongst those that had been buried.
estera
Piece of cloth woven out of plant material used to cover the floor like a carpet, and formerly, to cover the dead.
estilo e identidad
The link between the particular textile style and the way it signals identity among its wearers as being part of the same group. The textile style includes its form, structures and techniques, iconographic composition, use of colours etc.
